Firelane 1 St. Helens Road Trailhead

Serving as an emergency access route running up from Highway 30 toward NW 53rd Drive, Firelane 1 tackles a direct climb with grades of 10 to 28 percent. The trail pushes uphill through an exposed utility swath before ducking into a shadier forest section, reaching the junction with Leif Erikson Drive at roughly 1.5 miles. Clear sightlines along the ascent look out across the Willamette River and downtown Portland toward distant peaks like Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams, with trailside brush that can include poison oak.
