Find Wild Dolphins off Waianae, or Go Again for Free
Three hours on Oahu's west coast in a 16-seat boat: wild dolphins to find, and a reef stop to snorkel for sea turtles.
Waianae Boat Harbor sits on Oahu's west coast, at least an hour's drive from Waikiki, and this trip leaves from there on a rigid inflatable that takes no more than 16 guests. For three hours the crew searches the Waianae Coast for wild dolphins and stops at a reef to snorkel, looking for sea turtles and fish. If the boat finds no dolphins, the operator invites you back for another trip at no charge. It says that happens about 12 times a year. The listing describes the crew as lifeguard-certified marine biologists and naturalists.

The booking covers the boat trip, snorkel gear, a deli lunch, cold non-alcoholic drinks on board, and a hotel van from Waikiki or Ko Olina if you take the 7:00 AM departure.

The promise is about seeing dolphins, and a brief look from the boat counts. One 2024 reviewer saw them for a couple of seconds before they were gone. Getting into the water with them is a separate question. Federal rules in force since 2021 keep swimmers and boats at least 50 yards from Hawaiian spinner dolphins within two nautical miles of the main islands, and spinners are the dolphins the operator says rest close to shore on this coast. Any in-water look happens offshore, with other species such as spotted or bottlenose dolphins, and only when the crew judges the animals calm and the sea safe. The operator calls it more float-and-look than swim, and warns that the deeper water there can mean chop, no view of the bottom, and sometimes sharks. A reviewer who got in during June 2026 wrote that the dolphins kept their distance.
Sixteen Seats, Little Shade, No Restroom Aboard

Guests sit along the side pontoons against a railing on a low, fast boat. It covers ground quickly between spots, and it bounces when the water is choppy, which one 2024 reviewer found uncomfortable. There is little shade and no restroom on board; the restrooms are at check-in. The operator suggests a seasickness tablet an hour before departure if you are unsure. Getting back aboard after snorkeling means climbing a drop-down ladder, two or three rungs below the waterline, onto a platform and then down to the deck. The operator says normal elbow and knee strength is enough, and anyone can stay on the boat instead. Its rule for non-swimmers is plain: if you cannot swim, do not snorkel. Life vests and prescription masks from -1.5 to -6.0 are on hand. The listing rates the trip suitable for all fitness levels but not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
The 7:00 AM Boat Is the One With a Hotel Van
On this listing, hotel pickup runs only with the 7:00 AM departure, and the 10:30 AM departure meets at the harbor. The operator's own site describes pickups for both; book the early boat if you need the ride. Vans serve hotels in Waikiki and Ko Olina only, and not every Waikiki hotel. Choose yours from the pickup list when you book. One reviewer's van arrived at 5:30 AM. Driving yourself, check in by 6:30 AM for the 7:00 AM boat or by 10:00 AM for the 10:30 AM boat; the operator says the boat leaves without latecomers and there is no refund. Check-in is the single-story green building next to Spinners Cafe at Waianae Boat Harbor, 85-491 Farrington Highway, with free parking. Oahu has two Farrington Highways. Type Waianae or 96792 into your map. Allow at least an hour from Waikiki or about 30 minutes from Ko Olina, and expect an hour to an hour and a half for the van back in Honolulu traffic.
Lunch Is Packed; Wetsuits and Cameras Cost Extra
Lunch is a deli sandwich and chips in a cooler bag, and a cooler of non-alcoholic drinks rides on the boat. You can bring your own food and drinks; the operator lends small soft coolers and ice at check-in and hands out dry bags for towels and phones. Mask, snorkel, fins, and life vest are included. Wetsuit rental is USD 10 and a GoPro is USD 40 with the SD card yours to keep, both at check-in, and tips are not included. Children under 4 cannot join, and ages 4 to 12 book at the child rate. Humpback whales come through in winter, but on October 12, 2026 this listing had no dates after November 30, which put whale season outside what it was selling.
Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund; after that there is none. If the captain cancels for weather, the operator offers a refund or another date. Take the early boat and the afternoon is yours.
