1897 Gold Rush Exhibits in a Historic Seattle Hotel
Trace Seattle's outfitting role for Yukon prospectors, with ranger help and Junior Ranger booklets for kids.
🧭 Seattle Before the Yukon
The Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park Seattle unit starts with the people heading north and the city that helped send them there. Inside the historic Cadillac Hotel at 319 2nd Avenue South, the visitor center follows Seattle as an outfitting stop for hopeful prospectors bound for the Yukon.
Interactive exhibits put the 1897 rush at the center of the story. Artifacts, photographs and films give you different ways to follow it, from objects to the moving image. Rangers are at the desk for questions, while Junior Ranger booklets give kids a way into the history alongside the adults. This is a museum stop in Pioneer Square, with the gold rush told from its Seattle starting point.
Admission is free. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM, and closed on Monday and Tuesday. Keep that closing time in mind when shaping an afternoon around the neighborhood.
