ʻEwa Forest Reserve
4.7 (20)park
A rugged ridge hike through native forest to the Koʻolau Summit, rewarding hikers with sweeping island views.
Description

The reserve's Waimano section climbs up and down each puʻu along the ridge. The path sets out beneath stands of eucalyptus, brushbox, and guava before entering native canopy rich with koa, ʻōhiʻa, naupaka, lobelia, and kōpiko.
The outing demands stamina: the latter half is not regularly maintained and proves difficult for inexperienced hikers. Because the route crosses an active public hunting area, staying strictly to the trail corridor is essential, whether completing the six-mile trek in a day or camping by the trail shelters.
