Description

Tracing back to an 1818 street market, Essex Market has operated as an indoor market since 1940, evolving into a hub for small businesses on the Lower East Side. Under one roof, shoppers find groceries, restaurants, and little shops offering meats, cheeses, desserts, and more—tacos, burgers, ice cream, soup and sandwiches, fresh baked goods, cake pops, sushi. The variety is vast, yet the vibe stays less touristy and much more chill, preserving the nostalgia of the old market. Year-round community cooking classes and special events keep the mezzanine busy.
