Elmhurst Kitchen with Three Tables Serving Indonesian Plates

Indonesian comfort food brings satay, Java fried rice, and sparkling lychee juice to Whitney Avenue in Queens.

Try the Indonesian classics.

🍚 Homestyle Indonesian Staples

Homestyle Indonesian cooking comes out of a tiny Elmhurst kitchen on Whitney Avenue, and every classic on the menu is Halal. The dining room holds just three small tables, a squeeze that keeps all the attention on the food.

Start with a bowl of Soto Ayam, then work through Nasi Pecel or Nasi Goreng with sausage. Skewered satay and Java fried rice are the other classics to know, and the kitchen also turns out rendang, oxtail soup, and spring rolls for a bigger spread. To drink, choose between sparkling lychee juice and Thai iced coffee.

Asian Taste 86 stays closed every Tuesday, and the other six days open at 11 AM, running to 9 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and to 10 PM Friday through Sunday. An early lunch right at opening gives you the easiest shot at one of those tables.
