Elk Rock Garden
4.8 (430)park
A cliffside estate garden above the Willamette River, threaded with quiet woodland trails and rare specimen trees.
Description

Spanning 13 acres in Portland's Dunthorpe neighborhood, Elk Rock Garden ranks among the oldest and largest intact private gardens in Oregon. Scottish immigrant Peter Kerr acquired the grounds in the early 1890s, incorporating classic stone masonry alongside design advice influenced by John Charles Olmsted, Ellis F. Lawrence, and Emanuel Mische. After Kerr's death in 1957, the estate was donated to the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon and later repurchased by the Elk Rock Garden Foundation with help from his descendants to keep it open to the public.
