Description

Once submerged beneath Lake Michigan’s larger ancestor, Lake Chicago, the grounds settled into narrow wetlands filled with sedges and marsh grasses. That landscape draws spring and fall migrations of waterfowl and songbirds, alongside species such as gray catbirds, yellow warblers, eastern kingbirds, and red-eyed vireos. Outside of wildlife spotting, the preserve offers open space for recreation, picnic groves, and quiet walks supported by ongoing restoration work.
