Ecology Trail
4.7 (67)park
A Presidio path winding through redwood groves and native grasslands to sweeping bay views at Inspiration Point.
Description

Tracing a 1.4-mile route from the Main Post, the path traverses Tennessee Hollow, the Presidio’s largest watershed, threading through community gardens and stands of eucalyptus, cypress, and Monterey pine. Between spring and early summer, the endangered Presidio clarkia and other native wildflowers bloom across open serpentine grasslands. A spur leads to El Polín Spring, frequented by hummingbirds and butterflies, while the trail's southern edge opens to sights of Alcatraz, the Palace of Fine Arts, and Andy Goldsworthy’s Spire.
