Drunk Shakespeare Chicago, Off Script
I follow the exchange between a stage and its audience. This intimate theater puts that exchange inside Shakespeare, with improvisation and crowd interaction driving the performance.
Listen for the room
Nine years mixing tour monitors taught me to listen to the room as closely as the stage. Drunk Shakespeare Chicago makes that exchange part of the performance: one actor takes five shots of whiskey while four sober castmates try to keep the play on track. Improvisation and audience interaction shape this intimate theater at 182 N Wabash Ave.
For a different live-show format, Jazz Showcase presents touring and local jazz acts, House of Blues Chicago is a concert destination, and Blue Chicago centers on live blues. Lyric Opera of Chicago brings opera to the Civic Opera House. Winter’s Jazz Club is a small Streeterville room centered on live jazz. I would choose by the kind of room, then check each venue's own program before planning the evening.
