Drop Anchor at Crab Island, Where You Can Stand Up

Crab Island is not an island. It is a sandbar sitting in Destin Harbor, two to five feet under, and the whole point of this trip is that you get off the boat and stand in it.

Drop anchor at Crab Island and stand in the shallows.

The boat is a floating tiki hut: palm thatch over an open deck, an outboard on the back, and a Coast Guard inspection behind it. The operator puts the capacity at 20 passengers and the seats sell by the head, so a party of four shares the deck with whoever else booked that departure.

Three hours, fixed. The listing's own itinerary gives 140 of those minutes to the sandbar itself, leaving the rest for the run out and the run back.

There is an enclosed marine head on board. Over three hours on the water with nowhere to step ashore, that is the detail that decides things for a lot of people.

Departures go at 10:00 and 13:30, seven days a week, and booking closes four hours before the one you want. Confirmation is immediate.

The fare covers the captain, a large cooler packed with ice, and bottled water. No alcohol is sold on the boat or anywhere on the sandbar, so whatever you intend to drink has to come aboard with you at the marina. The operator sets that at 21 and up.

Top Shelf Tikis Crab Island Adventure 3 hrThree hours from East Pass Marina out to the Crab Island sandbar and back, on a 20-passenger Coast Guard inspected tiki boat with a captain, a stocked cooler and a restroom on board. Departures at 10:00 and 13:30.www.viator.com

A Coast Guard Inspected Hull Under the Palm Thatch

The operator describes the vessel as naval-architect designed, built in aluminum, Coast Guard inspected, and rated for 20 passengers. The booking system caps a single reservation at 20 travelers as well, so the two numbers agree on how full the deck can get.

What is fitted to it:

  • An enclosed marine head, on board for the whole three hours
  • A large cooler, packed with ice, plus bottled water
  • A Bluetooth speaker the captain will hand over
  • Paddleboards and a 12-foot sunpad, at no extra charge
  • An air pump, if you bring a float of your own

The captain is also the guide. The operator runs captained charters only, so nobody is handing you the wheel.

Crab Island Is a Sandbar, and It Is Not an Island

The name is the one thing worth straightening out before you book. Crab Island is a shallow patch in Destin Harbor where boats raft up for the afternoon.

The booking listing describes the water as knee-high. The operator's own page puts it at two to five feet, which is the figure to plan around if you are bringing children. At that depth most adults stand. People get out, and the three hours pass in the water rather than on the deck.

Vendors work the sandbar by boat, selling ice cream, food, t-shirts, pineapples and coconuts, and there is a floating general store carrying floats and sunscreen. Bring cash or a card. The operator says those vendors leave in November and return in May, and that they are never guaranteed on any given day.

Finding the Green Building, and Where Not to Park

Check-in is at East Pass Marina. Look for the booth with the Top Shelf Tikis sign; the marina building is the green one.

📍 214 Harbor Blvd, Destin, FL 32541

Parking is the part people get wrong. The operator provides none of it. The strip directly in front of the marina building is marked with a red X, and the operator says cars left there get towed. There is app-paid parking alongside, charged by how long you stay, and a public lot across the street that the operator puts at USD 15 for the day.

One thing to clear before you arrive: every passenger signs a waiver, with an adult signing for each minor in the party, and the crew checks it before anyone boards. The operator links the form from its own site, so it can be done the night before instead of in a parking lot.

What the Fare Covers, and What Still Costs Money

Seats price per person, and the bands matter for a family. Through the current season the listing runs USD 79 for ages 13 and up, USD 49 for ages 3 to 12, and USD 20 for infants under 3, who ride on an adult's lap. Summer dates loaded for 2027 price higher.

Gratuity sits outside the ticket. The operator names 20 percent as the industry standard and says tips go straight to the crew, in cash or by app on the day.

Two conditions worth reading before you commit:

  • Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund. Inside 24 hours nothing comes back.
  • The captain makes the weather call about an hour out, and the operator says cold on its own does not cancel a charter. Blankets ride along in the cooler months.

Children aged 8 and under are required by law to wear a life jacket on board. Coast Guard approved jackets are carried, and the operator suggests bringing your own for small children, since the ones aboard may not fit them comfortably.

The last run pushes off at 13:30 and the three hours are fixed, so you are back at the marina around half past four with the evening in Destin still ahead of you.

This listing's season runs through 31 October, and the 2027 dates it has loaded are not open for booking yet. The operator says it keeps running charters through the cold months, so an empty calendar here is the listing talking, not the boat.
