Dowsing Rods and Beer Baron Stories Inside the Lemp Mansion

Ninety minutes on a Wednesday night, floor by floor through a brewing family's St. Louis house, ghost-hunting tools in hand.

The Lemp Mansion at 3322 DeMenil Place is a restaurant and inn today, billed by its operator as "the historic home of Beer Barons." On Wednesday nights it runs the Spirits with the Spirits Ghost Tour, about 90 minutes long. A guide opens with the history of the mansion, the Lemp family, the tragic deaths and the brewing empire, then leads the group across several floors.

Guests work the equipment themselves, from dowsing rods and scrying charts to electronic devices for taking readings. One guest wrote in September 2026 that the group used dowsing rods and EMF readers "to investigate in almost all the rooms in the mansion."

This listing sells one ticket type, adult, for ages 18 to 65, with up to 30 per booking. Cancelling at least 24 hours ahead brings a full refund, and gratuity is not included.

History First, Then Floor by Floor

The order is fixed. The history of the mansion and the family comes first, before any readings start. From there the guide leads an interactive walk through multiple floors, each with its own supernatural stories, mixing first-hand accounts of hauntings with where, by the operator's account, activity is most likely to take place.

The same September guest put the length at "a little over 90 minutes."

A History Tour With an Investigation Attached

The operator's booking system headlines the night as a "Lemp History Tour with Paranormal Investigation," and the listing names the family's brewing empire among the subjects. The brewery and the family's tragic deaths sit at the center of the story the guide tells.

In the operator's words, the equipment is for discovering paranormal readings and detecting "any activity that may occur during the tour." The tools and the stories come with the ticket. What the group makes of the readings is left to the group.

The Door Locks Ten Minutes After the Start

Check-in is through the mansion's main entrance, and the arrival windows are narrow. For the 6:00 PM tour the operator asks guests to arrive no earlier than 5:30 PM. For the 8:00 PM tour, no earlier than 7:45 PM.

No one is let in after 6:10 PM or 8:10 PM, and late arrivals are not refunded. The doors are locked once the tour is underway. Inside, the route moves through multiple floors, and the operator warns that exploring the house may involve navigating numerous staircases. The listing asks for at least a moderate level of physical fitness.

Drinks, the Gift Shop and the Fall Calendar

Drinks are bought separately. Bar service runs before the tour and takes card or cash, and the gift shop opens once the tour is over.

As of October 15, 2026, the booking calendar showed Wednesday departures from October 21 to December 16, with none on December 9 and only the 8:00 PM slot on November 4. Nothing on that calendar was open after December 16. Departures run large, with up to 35 seats each in the operator's own booking system.

The address is 3322 DeMenil Place, St. Louis, and check-in is at the main entrance. Arrive inside the window, order a drink at the bar, then follow the guide up through the house with a set of rods in hand.
