Downtown Tampa's Ghosts and Gangsters, Starting at the TAMPA Marquee

A night walk through downtown Tampa's crime, epidemic and ghost stories, told as history, with a stop inside the Hotel Floridan.

The walk starts at 8:00 PM on Franklin Street, between Zack and Polk, under the vertical TAMPA sign of the Tampa Theatre, which opened in 1926. For the next 90 to 120 minutes the guide works through downtown on foot. The operator's own description lists Native American bones beneath the buildings, mass graves from the yellow fever years, and the mobsters and movie stars of the old Hotel Floridan.

The stories are told as history, and the operator's FAQ says the tour draws on the drama of history, with no costumes and no camp. Travelers who came for jump scares have said so in reviews. The owner's reply to one of them reads: "It is not a haunted house. It is a ghost tour of the city."

One departure runs each night from Tuesday to Sunday, at 8:00 PM. Ghost-hunting equipment comes with the ticket, and the operator asks guests to arrive at least ten minutes early.

The Hotel Floridan Is the Door That Opens

The listing names five stops at about twenty minutes each. Two are seen from the sidewalk by design: the Tampa Theatre and Sacred Heart Catholic Church are both described as visits from the outside. The Hotel Floridan is the stop where the listing says you enter with your guide, and the owner confirmed in a reply to a reviewer that the tour goes inside. A traveler in April 2026 wrote that no structure was entered except the Floridan. The booking page's inclusion line speaks of entrance into haunted buildings, in the plural.

The Floridan opened in 1927 and took the name Hotel Flor in 2024, so expect that name on maps. The operator's own write-up sets this stop in the hotel's Sapphire Room, among stories of mobsters and movie stars.

A cemetery is part of the night as well. The owner has told a reviewer that no one is allowed in the cemetery after dark, so that stop stays outside.

Mob Games, Ballast Bricks and the Old Tampa Bay Hotel

Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park is the stop the listing ties to a former mayor of Tampa, and it looks across the river at the University of Tampa's minarets. Those towers belong to the Tampa Bay Hotel, which Henry Plant opened in 1891, and the owner has listed a child ghost said to roam the Plant Hotel among the tour's stories.

The last listed stop is the street itself. The listing says downtown's bricks arrived as ballast on boats more than a century ago, and it tells walkers to watch their step. The legends of the Native tribes are told there.

The supplier's own photo captions point to Tampa's most notorious crimes and to the gambling games of the Tampa mob. Reviewers have named the Kress building and Tampa's mob era among the parts they remembered.

Kids, Strollers and a Few Steps

The booking page sells youth tickets for ages 6 to 12 and free tickets for children aged 1 to 5, and it marks the walk as fine for strollers. The operator's own FAQ says the tour is not open to children under 5 and is not recommended for children under 6. Every booking needs an adult, and the operator's FAQ says anyone under 16 must come with one. Families with older kids have written well of it, and an owner reply says the EMF meters give children something to do during the crime stories.

The listing marks every area and surface as wheelchair accessible. The operator's FAQ says otherwise for one building: a few steps lead into it, and anyone who cannot manage steps will not be able to enter it. The pace is set by the slowest walker, with regular pauses, per the same FAQ.

Weather, Lateness and Refunds

  • Tours go ahead in light rain and stop for thunder or lightning. The operator says it will contact guests if weather cancels a night.
  • The guide tries to hold for latecomers but cannot always wait, and the operator calls catching up once the walk is under way almost impossible. Guides do not take calls during the tour.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before the 8:00 PM start for a full refund on this booking. Inside 24 hours nothing is refunded.
  • One booking takes up to 25 travelers, and the listing caps a shared departure at 25. A traveler wrote in February 2026 that they and their daughter were the only two on a chilly night.

📍 Meet on Franklin Street between Zack and Polk, in front of the Tampa Theatre. Bring comfortable shoes, water and a camera, as the operator suggests, and be under the TAMPA sign by 7:50 PM for the first story.
