Float the Verde River in your own kayak.

Verde Adventure River Trips by Sedona Adventure Tours runs this half-day float on the Verde River outside Camp Verde, Arizona. The day starts at the river access where it also ends. A shuttle takes you about 15 minutes upriver to the put-in, the shuttle guide goes over safety and paddling, and then you float and paddle back down. The listing calls the Verde one of only two Wild and Scenic rivers in Arizona.

No guide paddles with you: you get the briefing at the start and steer your own kayak from there.

The listing includes a single inflatable kayak, a paddle and a flotation device, plus a shuttle driver who answers questions before you launch. It sells tickets from age 8, takes up to ten people on one booking, and closes bookings 48 hours before departure. Seats from Friday to Sunday cost a few dollars more than Monday to Thursday.

What Self-Guided Means on This Float

The operator puts the float at about five miles and two and a half to three hours on the water. Travelers on this listing report anywhere from about two hours to nearly three. One parent wrote in 2024 that "the guide doesn't go with you on the trip, but its not needed. You see him before and after." She described the boats as "more like paddling a giant raft but its not difficult." Another traveler, in 2026, wrote that "We could take breaks to swim and have a snack as needed."

The operator says most of its trips run outside cell phone coverage and hours from outside help. It asks guests to use appropriate caution. A 2022 traveler on this listing called and texted the office mid-float with a question and got no reply.

Riffles, Shallows and Low Water

Travelers on this listing describe a mild river. One wrote in 2026: "Great for beginners. Some mild fast water areas for a little thrill." The operator calls the stretches it runs mild. It says it checks water levels daily, that levels drop in a drier season, and that it makes sure levels are safe when the monsoon rains are active.

In low water season the operator takes out at a different spot. Your river guide texts you the plan for the day, and if no text arrives the operator asks you to call the office. A traveler writing in September 2021 about a day when the river was somewhat low said their group got stuck in rocky spots about four times. The operator also advises against two adults sharing a tandem kayak: two paddlers are harder to steer, and in low water a tandem can drag on the bottom.

Who Can Go, and in Which Boat

This listing sells tickets from age 8, so younger children cannot be booked here. An adult has to make the booking. Checkout on this listing is per person and names only a single inflatable kayak in the inclusions, with no option to select a tandem or kid boat when you book. On its own rate card, however, the operator lists a short beginner kayak called a Spuddie for ages 9 to 12 and puts children ages 3 to 12 in a tandem with an adult; a family of six on this listing wrote in 2024 that their 13-year-old "had her own spud" while the grandmother and the younger sister rode together.

The listing does not recommend the trip for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy, and asks for at least a moderate level of fitness. Everyone signs the operator's release form before the trip. No dogs or other animals are allowed on any trip, which the operator ties to its permitting.

What to Bring, and When to Be Back

The operator asks you to bring shoes or sandals that can get wet, a sun hat, sunglasses with a strap, sunscreen, a zip-top bag for your phone, water and snacks, and a change of clothes to leave in the car. Water is sold at check-in, with no free refills. A traveler in 2025 noted there are no changing facilities and only a portable toilet at the meeting site, and suggested arriving with a swimsuit on.

The boats run on a timetable, and the operator charges USD 35 an hour for a late return. Its schedule sets a 12:30 PM return for the 9:00 AM trip and 4:30 PM for the 1:00 PM trip, while its booking notes state that all boats and gear must be off the river by 4:00 PM—so plan on 4:00 PM as the afternoon cutoff. The operator's terms leave guide gratuities out of its listed prices, and the same 2025 traveler wrote that the gratuity was asked for directly.

📍 Meet at the Beasley Flat river access parking lot, 6217 Beasley Flat Road, Camp Verde. The listing's directions: from I-17 take Highway 260 toward Camp Verde for 1.6 miles, turn right on Oasis Road, turn right on Salt Mine Road at the stop sign, then turn left on Camp Verde Acres Access Road and follow the dirt road to the paved lot at the end. The trip ends where you parked, except in low water season, when your guide texts the plan.

The listing shows departures at 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Checked on October 13, 2026, the 9:00 AM boat was not running on any date sampled, the 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM boats were open on several October and November dates, December had fewer, and the 2027 dates sampled showed no departures yet. The listing refunds in full if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. The operator runs rain or shine and cancels with a full refund for weather, mechanical trouble, unsafe conditions or too few bookings. After that it is you, a paddle and the green bends of the Verde.
