Donaji: An Oaxacan Story on 24th Street
Donaji is temporarily closed: its official website says kitchen renovations will keep it closed for the rest of 2026. This is a history-focused look at its Oaxacan roots, not an invitation to dine there now.
Oaxacan roots on 24th Street
Donaji opened in October 2021. Its owner and chef, Isai Cuevas, is from Zimatlan, Oaxaca, and moved to San Francisco in 2004. The restaurant credits his earlier Tamalitos farmers-market and catering work as part of its story. Its Mission District address is 3161 24th Street; the restaurant is known for moles and tlayudas.
Before making plans: the restaurant currently reports a kitchen-renovation closure for the remainder of 2026. Confirm reopening directly rather than relying on the regular hours attached to its place card. Read Donaji’s current notice and its own history.
The five cards below are separate San Francisco discoveries, not a walkable itinerary: bin480 and Matador are on Sutter Street, La Corneta Taqueria and Mission Cannabis Club are on Mission Street, and Petite Lil’s is on Powell Street in North Beach. Mission Cannabis Club is an adult-only cannabis venue; check eligibility and current rules before visiting.
