Description

Sitting at the eastern edge of Del Mar Mesa and contiguous to Los Peñasquitos Canyon, the preserve shelters dozens of endangered and threatened species of plants and animals unique to the San Diego region. Established through joint negotiations between landowners, environmental advocates, and government agencies, the territory is protected under the city's Multiple Species Habitat Plan alongside state and federal jurisdiction. Route access follows a City Parks Resource Management Plan, which established compatible trails in consultation with local naturalists, cyclists, equestrians, and conservation groups.
