4.7 (170)museum
This 1818 Lafayette Square townhouse pairs neoclassical design with rare, surviving urban slave quarters.
Description

Designed by architect Benjamin Latrobe for naval hero Decatur, the building stands as one of the oldest surviving homes on the square. Operated through a partnership between the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the White House Historical Association, the museum pairs early Washington's political history and high society with educational exhibits examining the realities of urban slavery.
