Cruise Lake Austin at Sunset, Bring Your Own Drinks
A captained hour on Lake Austin, from the Pennybacker Bridge to Mount Bonnell, with the drinks you packed yourself.
The water here is narrow. Lake Austin runs between wooded limestone hills with houses stacked along both banks, close enough to look at from a boat. An hour covers the stretch that matters, and a captain handles the boat while you sit.
The itinerary sets aside ten of the sixty minutes for meeting at the dock, so the cruising is the rest. What you drink is your own department.

Departures run seven days a week at 5:00 PM, 6:00 PM, 6:30 PM, 7:00 PM, and 7:30 PM. One reservation holds up to twelve people. The product record lists the boat's shared-tour capacity at fifteen, so a smaller booking can be joined by others.

BYOB here means you carry the drinks and the boat supplies the rest. A cooler, ice, and bottled water come with it, and the sound system takes Bluetooth or an aux cable. The listing puts the minimum drinking age at twenty-one.
One rule travels with you from the parking lot. Outside food and alcohol stay out of the two restaurants beside the dock, which the operator states twice in its own meeting instructions. Seating is cushioned and runs around the deck, so a group of ten is not sitting on top of each other.
What the Hour Passes

The route reads like a list of things Austin points at. Mount Bonnell stands over the water, and the Pennybacker Bridge carries Loop 360 across the lake in a single rust-colored arch.
The itinerary also names Austin Country Club, Bull Creek where it meets the lake, and Mozart's Coffee Roasters on its waterfront deck. Between them sits the stretch the crew calls Little Venice, a canal of Mediterranean-style houses narrow enough that boats pass each other slowly.
Mount Bonnell is listed on the National Register of Historic Places under its park name, Covert Park at Mount Bonnell.
Picking a Departure
Five slots leave each evening, seven days a week: 5:00 PM, 6:00 PM, 6:30 PM, 7:00 PM, and 7:30 PM. Which one actually meets the sunset moves through the year, so the date you pick decides the slot rather than the other way around.
Booking closes eight hours before departure, which rules out a same-morning decision for the 5:00 PM boat. The season has an edge to it as well. The current run ends on January 4, and departures resume on March 9.
Finding the Dock
The meeting point is the boat docks between two restaurants, Quince Lakehouse and Hula Hut. The instruction is to walk down between them rather than into either one. The captain waits at the water.
Parking is extremely limited, and the operator recommends arriving by rideshare. Give the driver the restaurant address rather than Walsh boat landing. The landing is about two minutes from Hula Hut, but the operator says the city does not allow pickups there, so being dropped at it leaves you at the wrong dock.
Cancellation is free up to twenty-four hours before departure, and nothing comes back inside that window. The operator cancels for bad weather.
Children thirteen and under need an adult along, infants ride on a lap, and strollers and service animals are both allowed aboard. Bottled water is included. The gratuity is not: the operator sets it at 18% for the captain, settled at the dock by cash, Venmo, PayPal or Cash App rather than through the booking. Budget for it before you leave.
Sixty minutes after you step off the dock you are back on it, with the rest of the evening still in front of you.
