Yorkville German Restaurant With Pork Shank and Lager
A family-run tavern at 1648 2nd Avenue serves Wiener Schnitzel, potato pancakes, and a pork shank sized for two to three people.
🍽️ German Classics on Second Avenue
Heidelberg Restaurant keeps Yorkville tied to its German restaurant history, with wooden planks, vintage wall art and the feel of an old world tavern. The family run kitchen sticks to traditional recipes, with sausage platters, Wiener Schnitzel and crispy potato pancakes among the dishes.
Bring a couple of friends for the pork shank, which is sized for two to three people and arrives tender inside with a crackling exterior. Cold liters of lager carry the tavern theme through to the drinks.
Luise Edler purchased the restaurant in 1964, and her daughter Eva Matischak is an owner. Andreas, a grandson of Luise Edler, now carries on the family tradition. Find it at 1648 2nd Ave, in the neighborhood once known as a bustling Germantown. It opens daily at 11 AM, closing at 10 PM Sunday through Thursday and 11 PM Friday and Saturday.
