A Central Park Picnic Between Two Columbia Business School Classrooms

Two of them are free and sit in Kravis Hall two floors apart. The third is a subway ride south to a Central Park lawn, and it is the one anyone can buy into.

Plan a Central Park picnic with Columbia Business School.

A lunch hour in Kravis 640

The Christian Business Fellowship goes first, in the middle of a teaching day. Kravis 640, the Richman Classroom, 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30. The listing describes it as informal and says jeans are fine.

Ninety minutes, indoors, in a building most of the people invited are already standing in. Of the three, it asks the least of you. Its listing also limits sign-up to club members, so settle the portal before you count on a seat.

Friday afternoon on a Central Park lawn

The Spanish Society moves the middle slot outdoors. Sheep Meadow, 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 2, with Spanish bites, snacks and drinks while the term is still new.

It is the only one of the three that sells a ticket to people outside the club. Members pay $5, everyone else $20, and neither tier is capped. The listing puts it plainly: whether you're Spanish, speak Spanish, or simply love the culture, everyone is welcome.

The sun goes down at 6:37 that evening, so the last half hour runs in fading light. Bring a layer, and agree on a meeting spot before you leave. A wide lawn at dusk is a hard place to find people you have not met yet.

A former Morgan Stanley AI head, in a classroom

The AI Club closes the run with the only outside speaker of the three. Jeff McMillan, formerly head of firmwide AI at Morgan Stanley, on what happens to culture, governance and decision-making once AI becomes part of how work gets done.

The listing pitches it at students heading into the workforce as much as at people already running teams, and it reserves part of the session for audience questions.

Kravis 420, the Ty Classroom, 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6. Two floors below the room the fellowship used the week before.

Before you go

All three ask you to register ahead, and the two in Kravis Hall limit sign-up to club members. The picnic is the one with the door open to everyone. Settle all three through the club portal.

  • Money only comes up once. The two classroom sessions are free, and the picnic runs $5 for Spanish Society members and $20 for everyone else.
  • The picnic is also the only one outdoors and the only one off campus, and its listing carries no rain plan.
  • Room numbers are doing real work here. Kravis 640 on the Wednesday, Kravis 420 the Tuesday after.
  • Both Kravis events are a 1 train ride to 125th Street and a short walk west.
  • Clear the Friday afternoon if you can. Three hours on the Meadow with Spanish snacks, and the term has barely started.
