Colonial Park Cemetery by Afternoon Light, Then Savannah's Haunted Squares

A haunted history walk through Savannah's Historic District that starts among Colonial Park Cemetery's graves.

The walk meets at the main entrance of Colonial Park Cemetery on Abercorn Street. The City of Savannah calls it the oldest intact municipal cemetery in town, opened in 1750 and closed to burials since 1853. It holds more than nine thousand graves.

From there a guide leads the group through the Historic District for about an hour and 45 minutes, and the listing notes it can run to two hours. Departures on the booking calendar are 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM.

Tickets are sold per person, with a separate child ticket for ages 5 to 17. As of October 24, 2026, the listing priced adults at USD 33 and children at USD 23.

This booking refunds in full when cancelled at least 24 hours before the start time, and not at all inside that window.

Expect More History Than Jump Scares

The operator sells this as a haunted history tour. Its page for the walk tells guests to forget the gimmicks and jump scares and says every story is researched. Its booking page adds that at select stops the guide may demonstrate paranormal detection equipment, while the walk stays story-driven.

Recent reviews land on both sides of that. One in December 2025 said the group "learned so much history about the city not just cheesy ghost stories." Another that month gave three stars because the spooky part "didn't really materialize until more than halfway through the tour," and the operator replied that this is a haunted history tour. Book it for the history under the stories. Jump scares are not part of the pitch.

Where the Walk Goes, by Two Accounts

The operator's page for this tour lists Colonial Park Cemetery, the Sorrel-Weed House, Chippewa Square, the Foley Inn, Wright Square with the stories of Alice Riley and Tomochichi, and the Colonial Jewish Cemetery. It calls Bradley Lock and Key and the Owens-Thomas House a walk past, and it names the 17Hundred90 as the final stop.

The booking listing covers the same ground in broader strokes: an old jail, a historic dueling ground, a Revolutionary War battleground, a haunted inn and a mansion or two, finishing at Chippewa Square. Neither account lists admission to any of these buildings. A December 2025 reviewer noted that the guide pointed toward several houses and buildings from afar.

The Guide Named on the Listing Has Moved On

The listing still says your guide is Spooky Steve. The operator's own guide page says he created the company and has "passed the torch to the new owner, Hoodoo Joe." In replies to 2025 and 2026 reviews, the operator credits other guides on this walk, among them Hot Rod Rick and Maddy Marrow.

It is sold for all ages, and an April 2026 reviewer wrote that some of the stories were "not PG" but that the guide kept them kid friendly. The listing offers a quick stop at a haunted pub on request, while the operator's page for this tour counts three haunted pubs among its stops. Parents can ask at check-in how the pub stops will run.

Why the 2:00 PM Start Suits the Cemetery

As of October 24, 2026, the booking calendar showed a 2:00 PM walk every day through December 31 and a 7:30 PM walk on most evenings, with no 2027 dates loaded. The operator's tour page also lists an 11:00 AM start, which this listing did not offer.

The city opens Colonial Park Cemetery to pedestrians from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM from November through March, and until 8:00 PM from March through November. From November through March, a 7:30 PM group gathers at the gate after the cemetery has closed for the day, and the 2:00 PM departure is the one that falls inside its hours.

Tours run rain or shine, the operator says, and it calls a walk off for dangerous weather such as heavy lightning or severe winds. The listing marks the walk as stroller friendly and suitable for all fitness levels, and also advises against it for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. The operator's tour and policy pages say nothing about access, and a 2019 reviewer warned of a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes.

📍 Meet at the main entrance of Colonial Park Cemetery, 200 Abercorn Street, and arrive a few minutes early for check-in, as the operator asks. The listing ends the walk at Chippewa Square, while the operator's route ends at the 17Hundred90 inn on East President Street.

The walk begins among the cemetery's brick vaults and, by the listing's account, finishes beside James Oglethorpe's statue in Chippewa Square.
