College Hill Learning Garden
4.4 (14)park
A Bernal Heights outdoor classroom showcasing urban ecology with rain gardens, solar power, and a habitat pond.
Description

Located just off Cortland Avenue, the garden was designed to teach local students how cities can transition to ecologically friendly water, food, energy, and waste systems. Owned and operated by the SFPUC and open to the public since 2016, the site's physical landscape was co-designed directly with its educational curriculum. The setup demonstrates these concepts through functional interactive features, including a composting toilet, a vermicompost bin, vegetable planters, and orchard trees.
