Choose Your Altitude Over Clearwater Beach, Up to Twelve Hundred Feet

The booking sells seventy-five minutes. Roughly ten of them happen in the air, and the rest is the ride out to the tow zone and back. Here is how the three heights differ, who is allowed off the deck, and where Slip 45 actually sits.

Pick your altitude over Clearwater Beach.

The boat does not leave from the sand. It leaves from a slip on the intracoastal side of Clearwater Beach, behind a hotel, facing the bay, with the Gulf on the far side of the island. You board there, ride out, and wait while the crew works through the other groups aboard.

Then the winch starts paying out line. One flight lasts about ten minutes, and the operator's own site puts it no higher than that. The remaining hour is boat time, which is its own kind of pleasant if you know to expect it.

What you actually choose at booking is how much line goes out.

Three heights are sold as three separate tickets: eight hundred feet, one thousand, and twelve hundred. The flight time does not change with the height. The view does.

What Seventy-Five Minutes on the Water Actually Buys

The trip length and the flight length are two different numbers, and only one of them is printed large. Seventy-five minutes covers boarding, the run out to open water, every group's turn on the line, and the ride back in.

The operator's own site lists a single flight at approximately ten minutes. A boat holding twelve people gets through a lot of ten-minute turns before it comes back to the slip.

This is not a complaint. It is the shape of the afternoon, and people who expect a shuttle flight tend to enjoy the boat far more than people who expected to be back on land in twenty minutes. Bring sunscreen. There is no shade out there.

Eight Hundred, One Thousand, or Twelve Hundred Feet

Height is the only variable you control, and you lock it in at booking, before you ever see the water. At eight hundred feet the beach still reads as a beach: umbrellas, the pier, individual buildings along the shore.

By twelve hundred the coastline flattens into a strip and the water does the talking, shallow green near the sand grading into deeper blue further out. The higher tiers do not buy more time aloft. They buy a wider horizon and a quieter ride, since the higher you go the less you hear the boat.

The crew sends you up from the deck and reels you back onto it. Most people stay dry from start to finish.

Who Flies, Who Rides Along, and Who Stays Ashore

Flying starts at age five. The operator adds that anyone under fourteen has to fly with someone aged fourteen or older, and that a parent signs the waiver for anyone under eighteen.

Flying alone is not something you can count on in advance. The operator's site says solo flights are decided at the time of flight, and the captain may pair you with someone else aboard if you do not weigh enough to go up alone.

A few rules are worth knowing before anyone books:

  • Twelve people is the hard cap on the boat, and it counts everyone: flyers, non-flying riders, children, and infants on a lap.
  • Riding along without flying needs its own ticket. It is not included in the flight price.
  • The listing states that pregnant travellers are not permitted to parasail and are not allowed on the boat at all.
  • It also advises against flying with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
  • Service animals are welcome aboard, though they do not go up on the line.

Photos are sold separately and priced by the group, so a family of four pays what a couple pays. The operator describes the service as roughly fifty to seventy high-quality shots of your flight, handed to your phone before you get off the boat.

Finding Slip 45

🅿️ The address is 455 East Shore Drive, and the slip sits behind the Courtyard hotel on the water side, facing the intracoastal. This is the bay side of Clearwater Beach, not the Gulf side, so walking out to the sand and looking for a boat will put you on the wrong shore with the island in between.

Cancelling inside twenty-four hours forfeits the full amount, and cancelling earlier than that returns it. Weather is handled separately: if conditions stop the boat going out, the operator's policy is to move you to another slot or refund you in full.

Flights run on daylight and on wind, so the water decides the schedule more than the clock does. Bring a towel, leave the good camera in the car, and let the crew hold your phone during the launch.

Afterwards you are standing on East Shore Drive with the rest of the afternoon free, a five-minute walk from the pier and the sand on the far side of the island.
