Chicago Symphony Orchestra Previews Its Next Music Director
Hear the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Orchestra Hall in a preview season before its next music director arrives in fall 2027.
🎻 A Music Director in Waiting
Klaus Mäkelä spent early fall in residence with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Center, closing with Petrushka and Walton's Belshazzar's Feast on October 8 and 9. He holds the title of Zell Music Director Designate, and he formally becomes the orchestra's eleventh music director in fall 2027.
This season works as a preview year at 220 S. Michigan Avenue, home to Orchestra Hall, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the Chicago Symphony Chorus. A jazz series runs alongside the classical calendar, and live orchestral scores paired with film screenings widen the program beyond the symphonic canon.
The box office opens Monday through Saturday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and on concert Sundays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and the hall holds a 4.9 rating across nearly four thousand reviews.
