Cherry Springs State Park

A 48-acre park in Potter County, Pennsylvania, holds a Gold-tier International Dark Sky Park designation, drawing stargazers for some of the darkest skies in the eastern U.S. The large observation field offers plenty of room, and visitors report spotting the Milky Way, countless stars, and even meteors. Timing matters: clear nights and a new moon dramatically improve the show, while a bright moon can wash out fainter views. High elevation brings a significant temperature drop after dark, even when days are warm. Some visitors found the experience easy access to the stargazing field, with maintained grounds, restrooms, and a food truck on site. Others stayed until midnight or 2 a.m. for the best views, noting the field can get busy. A red flashlight is recommended to avoid disturbing others' night vision.
