Charlotte Ghost Stories Over Drinks, Starting in the Dunhill Lobby
A costumed guide walks Uptown Charlotte after dark, with ghost stories at the Dunhill Hotel, Old Settlers' Cemetery and nearby bars.
Nightly Spirits runs this walk on Friday and Saturday nights in Uptown Charlotte. A guide in Gothic dress meets the group just inside the lobby of The Dunhill Hotel on North Tryon Street, and the evening moves between haunted addresses and the bars along the way.
The itinerary gives its two longest stops, thirty minutes each, to the Dunhill itself and to Old Settlers' Cemetery. A bar stop gets twenty minutes. Three more sights are passed without a stop: Spirit Square, a historic theatre and a building the listing calls one of the most haunted in Charlotte.

The booking covers the costumed guide, the stories and visits to up to three local historic bars. Drinks and gratuities are not included, and everyone in the group has to be 21 or older with a valid ID.

Expect about two hours, and keep two and a half free. The booking length, the included items and Nightly Spirits' own Charlotte page all say two hours; only the listing's description says 2.5. If the walk wraps up at two, the spare half hour is yours.
The bar count moves too. The listing says up to three historic bars and notes that the route and the drink stops depend on availability, and the operator's own tour page says it does not guarantee a number of bars or a specific route. Travellers since 2024 have counted two bars on some nights and three on others, and one in 2025 wrote that one of the haunts was closed that night for interior flooding.
A Working Hotel Lobby and an Old Burial Ground

The Dunhill is still a working hotel. Its own site describes 60 guestrooms, calls itself Charlotte's only historic boutique hotel and puts The Asbury restaurant just off the lobby. Travellers mention ordering a drink at the hotel while the group gathers, and the guide spends half an hour on the hotel's stories.
Old Settlers' Cemetery is the other half-hour stop, and several travellers single it out. One wrote that ten years earlier they would have laughed at the idea of "wandering around a cemetery after dark" on purpose.
Who Can Come, and What You Pay for on the Night
Every guest has to be 21 or older with a valid ID, and the operator says it makes no exception for someone who does not plan to drink. Some bars card at the door, and the operator does not refund a guest who forgot ID and cannot get in. Drinks and tips are paid on the night. Service animals are allowed, and one booking covers up to four travellers.
Walking, Weather and Running Late
The listing asks for at least a moderate level of fitness. Across its tours, Nightly Spirits says a route usually covers about a mile with three or four stops that may not have seating, and some routes visit bars in historic buildings that may not have an elevator. It does not recommend most of its tours for guests with mobility restrictions. Travellers on this route have described the walking as easy.
The tour runs in the rain. The operator may cancel for dangerous weather or too few bookings, and says it will reach out at least 2.5 hours ahead with an offer to reschedule or refund. Cancel at least 24 hours before the start for a full refund; inside that window there is none.
Running late: the group waits five minutes for everyone, then spends about ten to fifteen minutes at the starting location. After that, the operator asks you to call so it can try to catch you up, and its FAQ adds that late guests get no refund or reschedule.
📍 The Dunhill Hotel, 235 N Tryon St, Charlotte. The guide waits just inside the lobby in Gothic dress, so check that it is the Nightly Spirits group before you join. The LYNX streetcar stops at Trade and Tryon, a short walk away, and street parking is free after 6:00 PM but hard to find. The listing says the tour ends very close to where it began.
Arrive early enough to check in and order a drink at the hotel before the first story.
