Description

A landmark Art Deco limestone structure, the Central Library has anchored Brooklyn since opening to the public on February 1, 1941. Its façade is designed to resemble an open book, and inside, visitors find a sweeping grand lobby alongside vast contemporary and historical collections. Recognized as a New York City Landmark in 1997, it joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
