CBH Talk | Haunted Brooklyn: Ghosts, Folklore, and the Stories We Tell

Andrea Janes, Leila Taylor, Colin Dickey, and Victor LaValle examine the lore of gothic Brooklyn and the fabled Melrose Hall, moving between folklore, literature, and history to explore how ghost stories reflect real-world anxieties about race, gender, and social power. Janes brings expertise in New York City's haunted histories, while Taylor investigates how race shapes fear, Dickey explores why supernatural narratives persist in the collective imagination, and LaValle uses horror to probe American society.
