Description

Started in 2011 when Lucia Rollow converted a Bushwick basement storage room into a DIY film lab, Bushwick Community Darkroom opened its current fully built-out, heated and air-conditioned ground-floor home at 334 Himrod St (just around the corner from the DeKalb Ave L train) in September 2024. Beginners can book three hands-on introductory classes at bushwickcommunitydarkroom.com/classes-1: Intro to Camera ($195), Intro to Film Developing ($225), and Intro to B&W Printing ($225), or the Intro to B&W Darkroom bundle ($600 for all three classes plus 3 free darkroom rental hours). For independent printing (35mm through 4x5 negatives, color and B&W, up to 20x24 prints), non-member darkroom rentals start at $20/hour during Public Open Hours ONLY (Tuesday–Saturday 13:00–20:00; chemicals are provided, paper is not—renters must bring their own photo paper). Memberships start at $30/month and include 24/7/365 facility access, while 24/7 film drop-off for developing and scanning (starting at $15) is available via the front-door dropbox.
