Description

The park shares its name with the neighboring Breukelen Houses, tracing back to a small city in the Netherlands. When Dutch pioneers settled on Long Island near modern-day Brooklyn Heights, they named their village after the Dutch town. Although the name was later anglicized, the park's moniker remains a reminder of the city's Dutch origins.
