Description
The 11.79-acre property was originally Clifton, a summer estate built circa 1825 for State Senator Walter Bowne. Following the city's acquisition of the land in 1925, the site officially opened as a playground in 1935. The park later marked a milestone in local recreation in 1969, when it debuted the city's first "instant playground" utilizing modular fiberglass play-cubes.
