Description
Built for Lady Mary Reade in 1623, this Jacobean manor later belonged to the Clitherow family from the 1670s until the 1920s. After a five-year restoration supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, it reopened in July 2023 with a mix of 17th, 18th, and 19th-century historic interiors alongside modern exhibition galleries and a café. The ornate original plasterwork is a highlight, and the storybook facade draws visitors in. It's a free visit, though some find there's not much to see; the café is a plus. Families note a great selection of open-ended play toys, books, and role-play clothes for children.
