Boston Fall Foliage Walk Through America's Oldest Public Park

Plan a Boston fall foliage walk across the country's oldest public park, with peak color expected in the first week of November.

Catch the color on the Common.

🍁 Peak Week on the Common

Local guides point to the first week of November as the peak for Boston fall foliage this year, with western Massachusetts turning sooner. Boston Common is the easiest place downtown to watch the color arrive, with shaded trees along paths that also carry the Freedom Trail.

Established in 1634, the nearly 50-acre park served as a colonial militia muster ground long before it became the city's lawn for festivals and free Shakespeare. Ballfields, monuments and the Parkman Bandstand break up the walk, and Frog Pond shifts with the seasons, from summer spray pools to winter ice skating.

Paths are open from 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM, and the park holds a 4.7 rating across more than thirty-nine thousand reviews.
