Bluffside Beach Walks, Cedros Dining and Live Theater
North Ponto Beach in Carlsbad sets the coastal mood with bluffs, narrow sand and surf. This North County collection also includes Beacon’s in Encinitas, Tavern’s music-themed dining in Solana Beach, and North Coast Repertory Theatre’s productions. Plan a regional mix of beach time, food and theater, keeping the distinct cities, Beacon’s steep descent and scheduled performances in view.

North Ponto Beach sits beneath bluffs just north of the state beach campground, where a narrow mix of sand and pebbles meets the open ocean. Steady whitewater draws surfers, while uncrowded stretches make room for shoreline walks and ocean views. Portions of the beach can be rocky, and on-site facilities are limited.

Tavern brings a music-themed dining room to South Cedros Avenue, sharing a wall with the Belly Up. Its kitchen moves quickly through dishes such as beef medallions, sea bass, and blackened shrimp salad. Diners who eat there before a show can receive early entry next door, while soundchecks may travel through the shared wall.

Known locally as Beacon's, Leucadia State Beach sits beneath craggy coastal bluffs in Encinitas. An improved switchback trail descends from the parking lot to the sand for surfing, swimming, and jogging. The return climb remains steep, creating a barrier for visitors with limited mobility. The beach is open daily from 6:15 AM to 7:30 PM.
