Description

A walking procession from the Cathedral Basilica along the Plaza de la Constitution opens the annual event, leading down to the St. Augustine Municipal Marina where the Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine performs the traditional blessing. Rooted in the city's early Spanish colonial occupation when seafaring vessels received blessings for safe journeys, the ceremony welcomes commercial and pleasure watercraft from trawlers to yachts. Participating vessels are encouraged to decorate with flags and bunting, while the public can view the proceedings from the docks, the Bridge of Lions, and along the bayfront.
