Birth of sound
DanceNov 15 · 14:00
A solo dance work tracing the ancient origin story of Indian music and movement through classical Bharatanatyam and Sanskrit texts.
Description
Rooted in the Shiva Sutras, the Sangeetha Ratna Kara, and the Natya Shastra, this solo, research-driven dance work traces how sound became mantra, mantra became melody, melody found expression, and expression became dance. The performance features classical Bharatanatyam with expressive abhinaya and Sanskrit texts brought to life through movement on a journey from stillness to the complete art of Natyam. No prior knowledge of Indian classical dance is needed to follow the piece.
