Description

Located on Madison Street between 60th Place and Fresh Pond Road, this space is named after former Queens Parks Commissioner Albert C. Benninger (1885–1937). After serving in the Marine Corps during the Spanish-American War, Benninger moved to Glendale in 1905. His public career in the borough included roles as Assemblyman, alderman, and Commissioner of Public Works. He went on to lead the local Parks Department for over a decade, later finishing his career as the Federal Marshal for the Eastern District of New York.
