Description

Marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this exhibition uncovers the scientific undercurrents of the 1760s to the 1790s. Visitors encounter remarkable maps, paintings, instruments and artefacts that trace how diverse peoples navigated and cultivated the American landscape. The display connects colonial ambition with the knowledge of enslaved and free African-descended peoples and enduring Indigenous scientific practices. Alongside stories of King George III and George Washington, the experience features objects from the personal collections of the monarch and his former subject turned president.
