Bavel Sits Behind Hanging Greenery on Mateo Street
A shared feast built on flatbreads, smoke and pickling, served in a loud Arts District room that runs from five to eleven.
🫓 Start with flatbread and spreads
Bavel sits at 500 Mateo Street in the Arts District, a dining room under hanging greenery with an open fire and a menu shaped as a shared feast. Courses run from flatbreads and spreads, duck hummus among them, into vegetable plates, cured meats and large format meat and fish. The kitchen opens at five and runs until eleven every night. Service stays unhurried, so do not plan a tight second stop behind it, and the room can run hot and loud by the middle of the evening. Order one flatbread per person and two spreads to start. A full pass through the menu takes about two hours. Book ahead if you want a table rather than a seat at the counter.
