Austin's Ghost-Story Pub Crawl Saves the Driskill for Last
Two hours of ghost stories told on foot, stop by stop, from Moonshine on Red River Street to the Driskill on Sixth Street.
Think of this as a storytelling walk that happens to pass through bars. The listing names five points in order: Moonshine on Red River Street, where the group meets, the O. Henry Museum on East Fifth Street, Azul Rooftop, Sixth Street, and the Driskill hotel at Sixth and Brazos. The tour description mentions rooftop views, but Azul, the rooftop bar at the Westin Austin Downtown, is only a walk-past stop. Azul's FAQ says it typically takes outside guests until 10:00 PM Sunday to Thursday and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays; the Westin's page lists 5:00 PM to midnight daily for the public. Timed stops account for about 100 of the 120 minutes. A September 2026 reviewer found every stop pretty close to the next and still advised comfortable shoes.
The route finishes at the Driskill on Sixth and Brazos. It does not loop back to Moonshine.

Tickets are for ages 21 and over, one per person, on a phone or on paper. Drinks are not part of the ticket; the bars along the route sell them. Booking closes two hours before the start.

The second stop is the O. Henry Museum at 409 East Fifth Street. The Texas State Historical Association says William Sydney Porter, who wrote as O. Henry, lived in the house with his wife and daughter from 1893 to 1895. The house was built in 1886 on East Fourth Street and moved to this site in 1934, the association adds. The City of Austin, which runs the museum, says it covers his Austin years, when he wrote his earliest stories. The listing gives the stop 20 minutes of strange tales tied to his life and legacy.
The posted hours end at 6:00 PM Wednesday to Friday and 5:00 PM on weekends, and the walk reaches the house after a 7:30 PM or 8:00 PM start. Admission is free, and two March 2026 reviewers singled out the O. Henry House as the standout stop. The rooms in the photos above are open on Wednesday through Sunday afternoons.
The Last Stop Opened in December 1886

Before the finish, the route works along Sixth Street, which the listing frames around its frontier days of cowboys and vice. A June 2026 reviewer who went on a weekday called Fifth and Sixth slow and relaxing for hearing ghost stories in person.
The walk ends at the Driskill with a 25-minute stop for what the listing calls the hotel's most chilling legends, told where they happened. The Texas State Historical Association records that cattle-drive pioneer Jesse Lincoln Driskill bought the half block at Sixth, Seventh and Brazos in 1884, and that the hotel opened on December 20, 1886. The listing does not say which rooms or floors the group goes into.
Drinks Cost Extra, and Groups Can Be Tiny
Alcohol is listed as not included. A three-star reviewer in August 2026 wished the ticket came with a drink or some perk at the bars, and found the service the same as any customer gets. Reviews dwell on the storytelling more than the bars, with guests describing laughing, getting scared and hearing Austin history they had not heard before.
The listing caps a shared walk at 25 travelers and one booking at fifteen. A four-star August 2026 review says the walk ran with just the reviewer and a sister, and that it felt different without a group. Two bachelorette parties and a team outing are among the groups that left reviews.
Finding the Group, and When It Can Be Called Off
The meeting point on the booking is Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill, 303 Red River Street, and the listing's note says to sit on the benches out front, near the valet. The restaurant says its building was the Hofheintz-Reissig General Store and Saloon. The building's 1983 National Register nomination dates the two-story stone store to between 1850 and 1875 and, citing family accounts, puts the one-story stone wing that served as a home, saloon and domino parlor at about 1892. A February 2026 reviewer asked for the meeting spot to be simpler to find, and the reply said it had been tweaked.
The listing allows the walk to be canceled for poor weather or too few travelers, and a full refund requires canceling at least 24 hours before departure. The listing marks all areas and surfaces as wheelchair accessible, but it also lists health cautions for some travelers. If step-free access matters, ask about the route when booking.
As of October 16, 2026, departures run at 7:30 PM, or 8:00 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The tour wraps up with ghost stories told at the Driskill, right where the legends are set.
