Marcel Breuer’s downtown brutalist landmark pairs bold concrete design with expansive library spaces and art exhibits.
Description

Completed in 1980 as one of the architect's final major civic projects, the flagship at Margaret Mitchell Square pairs broad public borrowing with specialized gathering and study spaces. It houses the Best Buy Teen Tech Center alongside a 388-seat lower-level auditorium and a fifth-floor conference center. Daily activity shifts level by level: public computer stations hum on the second floor, quiet stacks fill the third, and the top floor holds children's literature, supported by staff providing research assistance in special collections.
