Angel Island Immigration Station
4.7 (193)museum
Historic island barracks where immigrants detained under exclusionary laws carved poetry directly into the walls.
Description

Between 1910 and 1940, roughly 500,000 Pacific-crossing immigrants passed through this San Francisco Bay site—historically referred to as the “Ellis Island of the West”—marking their initial arrival on U.S. soil. Today, the museum pairs the physical quarters with detailed exhibitions and guided tours to unpack the exclusionary policies of the era alongside personal accounts of strength, hope, and resilience.
