An Hour of Surf Coaching Beside the Cocoa Beach Pier
An hour in the Atlantic on a soft top, with a school that says new surfers are its specialty.
Learning to surf gets easier when the wave is small and the bottom is sand. Cocoa Beach Surf School tells beginners to look for winds under 10 mph and waves of one to two feet, and it calls that the window worth watching for on the local surf report.
The school works out of a beach tent under the pier. Its own account is that new surfers and large groups are what it handles most, over more than ten years. The hour opens on land with board and water safety. After that the instructor goes into the Atlantic with you.

The lesson meets on the south side of the Cocoa Beach Pier, at the beach rental tent outside the blue doors underneath it. Everyone meets there. The school does not collect anyone from a hotel or a rental.

One board comes with the booking. A wetsuit is not included. The school rents them on site.
Reading the Forecast Before You Book

Conditions here turn over daily, and the school points beginners at the local surf report rather than at a season. Its own markers are winds under 10 mph and waves of one to two feet, and it calls low tide the better window for children.
Booking ten hours ahead is what guarantees an instructor. Same-day requests are handled as walk-ups at the tent, and the listing matches that rule: it stops taking bookings ten hours before the start time.
Confirmation comes back immediately once a booking goes through. The listing is also flagged as one that can be called off for bad weather.
Who It Is Built For, and What to Bring
Children can join from age six, and every booking has to include an adult. The operator asks for at least a moderate level of fitness, and does not recommend the lesson for travelers who are pregnant, have spinal injuries, or have poor cardiovascular health.
What you carry down is short. The school says a rashguard is recommended and not required, and that a bathing suit, sandals, and the usual beach kit of towels and sunscreen cover the rest.
On its summer-camp page the school says its instructors are first aid and CPR certified, and background checked.
Parking, Tickets, and the Cancellation Line
Parking is the one cost the booking leaves to you. The school's own note is that the pier has a paid lot plus metered parking along the side streets, and that the lot takes cash only.
Tickets are mobile, and paper is accepted. One ticket covers the whole booking rather than each person on it. Cancelling at least 24 hours before the start time returns the full amount.
