Ampere Playground

This Queens park honors André Ampère, the French physicist and mathematician celebrated as the father of electromagnetic theory. The park's name shares a lineage with a series of electrically themed streets in the region—such as Ampere Avenue, Radio Drive, and Ohm Avenue—which were named after Isaac Leopold Rice, president of the Electric Storage Battery Company, donated land to the city. Today, the playground provides a welcoming space for community recreation and play under the banner of scientific history.
