American Beach by Electric Skateboard, and Your Guide Films It

A half-hour ride on the hard sand at the south end of Amelia Island, on battery-powered boards with fat tires. The guide teaches, leads, and shoots the whole thing on a GoPro, and the photos land in your inbox afterwards.

Ride an electric skateboard on American Beach.

The boards are electric, with knobby tires and a handheld throttle, and they hold a line on wet packed sand the way an ordinary skateboard holds pavement. Your guide is already set up on the beach when you walk down. Thirty minutes, one stretch of sand, ages seven and up.

This is an out-and-back along one section of American Beach. It does not tour the island, and the operator says so in its own words. When a traveler complained in July 2025 that the ride never reached Fort Clinch or a view of Cumberland Island, the owner replied in public that the company had not ridden North Beach in years and that the experience now runs from American Beach. Thirty minutes of riding time is what you are buying; the stretch of sand stays the same. Travelers who had never stood on a skateboard describe getting comfortable in about five minutes, which leaves most of the half hour for actually moving.

Nobody Has to Stand Up

The single most useful thing to know before you book with a nervous child: you can ride sitting down. Travelers have described this consistently since 2020, and two of them call it Mario Kart style. One parent wrote that her seven-year-old was nervous at first and sat, and that the guide kept an eye on her until she felt confident. Another rode seated because of bad knees, and wrote that the guide sat on his own board alongside her. Guides set this up on request, and the company's own photographs show whole groups riding seated. The operator does not publish a policy on it, so what you have is five years of traveler reports and those photographs.

The Guide Rides With a Camera

Filming is part of the booking. The listing states that 4K pictures and video shot on the guide's GoPro are included at no additional cost, and the inclusions name the guide as videographer and photographer as well as guide and DJ. You get the footage afterwards, so nobody in your group has to be the one holding a phone. Travelers describe receiving an edited compilation and stills by email, in one case the day after the session. The listing also says the group occasionally stops mid-ride to look for shark teeth near the jetties, and a handful of travelers mention being handed some at the end. The listing's word is occasionally, so treat it as a bonus the guide may offer.

Who Can Get On a Board

Seven is the floor: the booking form sells a youth seat at age seven and an adult seat from eight. One booking takes up to seven travelers, so a large family may need to split across reservations. The listing rates the activity as suitable for all physical fitness levels, and service animals are allowed. It is not recommended for travelers who are pregnant, who have spinal injuries, or who have poor cardiovascular health. One traveler who rode in March 2025 noted that it asks more of your calves and balance than she expected, and said she was glad she had booked the shorter of the two rides. If a skateboard is the wrong tool, the company will set aside an electric scooter when you ask at booking time, though scooters are not allowed on the sand.

Finding the Guide on the Sand

Drive in on Burney Road and look for the sign reading Burney Beach Park, which is the operator's name for it. The county calls the park Burney Park and the booking page calls it Burney Beach Front Park. It is one place, at American Beach on the south end of Amelia Island. Park anywhere in the lot, walk past the restrooms and down the boardwalk, and the guide will be on the sand. Being on time means fifteen minutes before your slot; arriving late forfeits the spot and the full price is charged. Cancelling more than twenty-four hours ahead is free. The operator watches the forecast and will call off a ride it considers unsafe, offering a rain check or a full refund.

Thirty minutes is shorter than it sounds when you spend the first five learning, so arrive loose and ready to move. The ocean is on one side and a line of dunes on the other, the sand is wide and flat, and for the rest of the half hour the only thing to decide is how fast you want to go.
