Description

Painted on the second-story exterior wall of the Italian Hall at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument, the monumental América Tropical centers on an indigenous figure crucified on a double cross beneath an American eagle. The center provides historical depth around the piece and traces the 20-year conservation partnership between the Getty Conservation Institute and the City of Los Angeles, which added a protective canopy shelter to reintroduce the preserved mural to public view.
