🏛️ San Francisco’s Oldest Adobe Walls

Begin your holiday morning at Old Mission Dolores, where thick adobe walls dating back to 1791 buffer against city traffic. Self-guided visits require no advance reservation and run Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 16:00, and weekends from 10:00 to 17:00 (we suggest visiting during pickup week on November 23–25, and checking ahead for any special holiday service schedules). Take in the redwood ceiling painted in Ohlone chevron patterns, Spanish colonial statues, and the tranquil cemetery garden before walking three blocks south toward 18th Street.

🥧 Neighborhood Pies and Holiday Sides

Bi-Rite Market makes holiday hosting seamless with scratch-made centerpiece sides and bakery staples. Preordered Thanksgiving dishes, featuring classic nine-inch pumpkin pies baked by Bi-Rite Creamery ($29.99, serving 6–8), mushroom herb stuffing ($29.99), and turkey dinners, are scheduled for pickup from November 23 to 26. For 18th Street orders, all holiday pickups are staged across the street at community cooking school 18 Reasons (3674 18th St), where timed preorder slots prevent store crowding. Store pickups carry a standard $6 handling fee; orders can be cancelled free up to 2 days prior to pickup, while later cancellations may incur a 75% fee.

🚶 Linking Mission History With Holiday Tables

This two-stop morning bridges San Francisco’s deep cultural heritage with neighborhood seasonal traditions. A brisk six-minute walk down Dolores Street connects the centuries-old chapel with 18th Street. To coordinate the morning, explore the historic mission first at its 10:00 opening, then proceed to 18 Reasons during your pre-selected pickup window so your holiday dishes head straight home fresh rather than sitting out. Take the Muni J Church line to 16th or 18th Street; when returning, carry your pie flat by hand or take a short rideshare to keep the delicate crust flawless in transit.
