This historic Manhattan park is an oasis of winding bluestone paths, Victorian details, and seasonal floral displays.
Description
Dating back to 1831, this is one of the oldest squares in the city, originally enclosed by the Common Council. Its most prominent landmark is the Abingdon Doughboy, a World War I memorial presented in 1921 by Governor Alfred E. Smith to a crowd of twenty thousand spectators. The space is styled with decorative iron light-poles and entrance urns, with its upkeep supported today by the Abingdon Square Conservancy.
