A Week Alone in San Diego Without a Packed Plan
A solo week in San Diego needs a rhythm, not a full calendar. If the holiday stretch leaves you without plans, I would start with a bar seat, make room for theater and dinner, then finish with a call. Alcohol is optional; confirm any alcohol-free offering before booking. These are separate citywide outings, not a walkable route. Monday through Sunday mark reading order, not opening-day promises.
🪑 Monday — The bar seat
Start with somewhere you can eat without making an occasion of it. KnB Bistro has an indoor bar area, a covered outdoor space and a scratch-made menu, so I would make dinner the anchor rather than the drinks list. Ask which seating is available before you leave, then choose one dish instead of building an entire evening around the stop.
🎭 Tuesday — Stage first
Let a performance do the social work tonight. The Old Globe stages plays and musicals across indoor and outdoor spaces; I like having something specific to watch instead of another evening spent deciding what to do. Check the current production and its actual performance time before choosing a ticket. This is a place in the week, not a promise of a Tuesday matinee.
🍽️ Wednesday — Dinner on your terms
I would treat this as dinner, not a drinking assignment. J & Tony’s pairs cured meats and meatballs with an Italian-inspired deli atmosphere and a lively, relaxed soundtrack. That gives the food a starring role even when you leave the Negronis alone. Ask about current food service and seating before heading to Ninth Avenue; a counter seat is a request, not a guarantee.
🌳 Thursday — The open table
Give the middle of the week some room. Stone’s Liberty Station bistro spreads dining across a former naval space with garden seating beneath trees and a world-inspired menu. I would choose a meal with breathing space rather than turn the brewery name into a tasting obligation. Check the available dining areas before setting off; outdoor seating is a preference, not a booking promise.
🌙 Friday — One drink, then home
A short night still counts as going out. At 52 Remedies, the flower-lined entrance and soft-lit, apothecary-inspired room give you a change of scene without needing a second stop. I would ask about an alcohol-free option before booking rather than assume the cocktail bar has one. Reservations are strongly recommended in the venue details; check the current terms and decide your exit before arriving.
🌊 Saturday — The guided reset
Trade aimless scrolling for an outing with a guide. Hike Bike Kayak runs guided kayak, snorkel and bike adventures around coastal habitats and neighborhoods, giving the route a human lead when planning feels like work. Choose the activity you actually want, then check its meeting details and required gear. Cave access on kayak trips can be restricted by conditions and traffic; it is not the promise.
☎️ Sunday — Call someone
End with a conversation, not another obligation to stay out. Humphreys SoCal Dining & Music offers a glass-walled dining room overlooking the marina, which makes one unhurried meal my closing move. Call someone before you sit down, then let dinner be enough. Check current dining availability separately from the concert schedule; a meal here does not guarantee a performance, and you do not need one.
