🎭 Palace nights

The Orpheum Theatre is a restored Spanish-baroque movie palace on West Adams Street in downtown Phoenix, and its lobby opens onto a sweeping staircase framed by brass rails and patterned carpet. The auditorium seats more than 1,300 across dual balconies, and the painted ceiling arcs overhead like a courtyard sky at dusk.

The calendar runs from orchestral concerts and dance showcases to comedy tours and film screenings. Between acts, several bars stay open and a counter turns out quesadillas, keeping the intermission crowd moving through the ornate halls.

Sightlines from the upper balcony can tighten, a quirk of the vintage layout. Ticket holders tend to arrive early to photograph the staircase and the tilework before the house lights drop.
